The original location of the obelisk had to be changed to allow the new Alder Hey Hospital building on site.
Hundreds of local residents gathered to mark the event and unveiling of a new plaque. Many residents had been helping get the site ready for the day, cutting grass and painting litter bins. Local Councillors and the Friends of Springfield Park Committee had been instrumental in making the day happen.
The Lord Mayor was on hand to mark the occasion as well as members of the Royal Naval Association and faith leaders. Everyone was welcomed to Knotty Ash Youth Centre after the ceremony to celebrate and meet neighbours.
Stephen said “This is a great day for the local community. It’s great to see Nelson’s Column in its new home in the refurbished park. I’d like to congratulate the Friends of Springfield Park Committee for all of their fantastic work, especially Councillor Tony Concepcion and local residents who helped get the park ready for the celebration.
